SUBSEA ROCK DRILLING
NORSUB AS is a Norwegian subsea company specialised in drilling into rock below the waterline. Our purpose-built ROV drills horizontally into underwater rock faces and vertically into rock beneath the seabed, with a drilling capability of up to 6 metres.
ROV DRILLING BUILT FOR THE OPERATION
Underwater rock drilling places demands that a standard work-class ROV is not designed for: reaction forces have to be carried, the tool has to stay on line through the full bore, and the spread has to work from a vessel of opportunity. Rather than adapting a conventional ROV, NORSUB developed the platform around those requirements.
The result is a single ROV-based system for subsea drilling that removes the need for divers in the bore area, and that can be mobilised for work in rock faces, seabed rock and other hard-rock subsea locations where anchoring, fixing or sampling is required.
HORIZONTAL AND VERTICAL SUBSEA DRILLING
HORIZONTAL DRILLING
Drilling up to 6 metres horizontally into underwater rock walls and rock faces — for example where fixings, anchoring points or penetrations are required in a vertical rock formation.
VERTICAL DRILLING
Drilling up to 6 metres vertically down into rock on the seabed, where loads have to be transferred into competent rock rather than into sediment.
